Lochearnhead Scout Station provides a range of indoor accommodation across a number of log cabins:
The bulk of the scouts and explorers will likely be lodged within the 12 person cabins of Stob Binnien, Ben More, Ben Vorlich and Stuc a Croin plus the 6 person Ben Vene and Ben Ledi.
Adults staying on site will likely take up residence in the Ranger Cabin and Platform 1 & 2 buildings. The Porters Lodge will either be overflow for adults or scouts & explorers, based on our final mix of ages and genders!
All buildings are heated cabins with bunk beds – often large ‘shelves’ of rubber on sleeping platforms, with areas for luggage, boots and coats. We recommend you bring your own sleeping mat to supplement the comfort levels of these platforms! Some cabins instead have traditional bunk beds with mattresses.
Toilet and shower blocks with on-demand hot water service each end of the station site. A cleaning rota will be enforced to keep these tidy. The drying room is able to dry dozens of wet-suits in hours and is a real luxury!
At a squeeze, we can just about seat all 90 attendees for meals in the dining room and sun lounge. The Station Master’s Office is our admin centre and off limits to scouts/explorers. A small sick bay allows us to provide those under the weather with a peaceful area separated from the rest of the accommodation.
On occasions, we have needed to supplement the indoor cabins with tents pitched on the grass areas around the site – for example, to accommodate families bringing children under scouting age.
