Can You Help us at Batchworth Sea Scouts ?

Batchworth Sea Scouts is run by volunteers.  We are a team that includes leaders, assistants, helpers, treasurers, etc etc. It would be wrong to say we have as much fun as the Beavers, Cubs, Sea Scouts and Explorers but we do come close.  We have a very active program at Batchworth and we are always looking for people to help out.  If you think you can then please email the Group Scout Leaders using the link here and we will be happy to email or call you back, alternatively just come down to our headquarters and have a chat with any of the section leaders.  Thank you.

Below are some reasons why people say they cannot help....
but come and find out about the hundreds of reasons that you should.

I am not qualified

Yes you are !  We hear this one a lot.  All you really need to be qualified to help at Batchworth Sea Scouts is to be able to work together with young people.  If you have managed to raise a child to the age of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers then you are qualified !   Just as for teachers and anyone else that works with children we do have to run a CRB check, but that is for everyone's benefit, but that's it, that's all there is to it.

 I don't have the time

Yep, that was my excuse as well before I joined, but, this is not like a 9-5 job, you can help for 1 hour a month on an adhoc basis and we would still be very very grateful.  If you could come to a few meetings that would be fantastic. Or, if you just want to put your name down to help out very occasionally when we are short that would be incredible.  What I found is that I was more productive in the other things I was doing when I had a really rewarding time helping out at Batchworth occasionally.

I wouldn't know where to start

Don't worry. We are not asking you to take over and run Batchworth (at least not yet).  You will join a team of people that will guide, explain and help you join in.  There are incredible support services, from the national scoutbase website, through support at headquarters and I am sure you have found the leaders secure login section on this website.

It's really not my thing

ok, no problem.  Although we are Sea Scouts there is no press gang at Batchworth.  However, why not come down to one of our meetings and check us out ? what's the worst that could happen ? that you find out how much fun we have !

Give us a call or come in for a chat, you will find that it is our welcome that makes us a great Sea Scout Group but it's our team spirit and the fun that we have that makes us Batchworth Sea Scouts.
